Royal Palace of Caserta
The Royal Palace of Caserta was designed by Luigi Vanvitelli in the 18th century on the model of Versailles. The apartments are decorated with stuccos, statues, carvings and furniture imported from France. The paintings found in the rooms and halls, authored by nineteenth centrury Italian and Dutch artists, depict the family of Borgone. The Royal Park, also designed by Vanvitelli and commissioned by Maria Carolina of Austria is a work of art in itself, with statues, fountains and water features as well as rare, exotic plants.
